The Top Animated Christmas Movies

Animated Christmas classics have become a holiday tradition in many households.


For many, watching animated Christmas movies brings back memories of simple family times gathered in front of the television set enjoying clean, heart-warming entertainment and a glass of warm cocoa. While there will never be an ultimate consensus on a list of the best animated Christmas movies of all time, a few have stood the test of time and earned their status as animated Christmas classics. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)


This Christmas time must-see tells the tale of the bitter, grumpy Grinch and his plan to literally steal Christmas from the cheerful Whos of Whoville by dressing in a reindeer disguise and stealing anything Christmas-related from the town.


A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)


Charlie Brown, frustrated with the superficiality of so many people during the Christmas season, takes his friend Lucy's suggestion to become the director of their school's Christmas pageant. He soon realizes that the task is more complicated than he imagined and seeks the help of Linus to discover the true meaning of Christmas.


Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964)


This made-for-TV movie offers one take on the story of Rudolf, the legendary red-nosed reindeer, through the point of view of a snowman named Sam. In the movie, Rudolph is alienated from his group of friends because of his bright red nose and, with the help of an abominable snowman, an elf and a prospector, discovers an entire island of misfit toys. He requests that Santa help the toys, but must come up with a quick solution when Santa's sleigh is fogged in on Christmas Eve.


Frosty the Snowman (1969)


This 22-minute film brings the popular Christmas song, "Frosty the Snowman," to life. Viewers watch as Frosty, a snowman who comes to life when a magician's hat is placed upon his head, and a girl he befriends make the trip toward the North Pole to prevent Frosty from melting in the spring. The twist is that the two must escape the greedy magician who wants his hat back along the way.


The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)


This twentieth-century classic combines the concepts of Halloween and Christmas to show what happens when you take a group of goblins, bats and ghouls who have grown bored of their Halloween rituals and assign them the task of creating their own Christmas in Halloween Town.
