Weight Loss Exercise For Diabetics

According to Time.com, many doctors are urging their patients with type 2 diabetes to exercise and lose weight. The key issue then becomes what exercises to do. If you have type 2 diabetes, you need to be careful as to which exercises you do and how much exercise you do. Know when enough is enough. Try these simple exercises to help you lose weight.

Types of Exercise

Diabetes.org suggests that there are three types of exercises that your should focus on: aerobic exercise, strength training and flexibility training. For your aerobic exercise, try taking a brisk walk, do some laps in the local pool or go ice skating. Basically, with aerobic exercise, the goal is to increase your heart rate and work your muscles. If you are just starting the routine, you should aim to do some aerobic exercise at least 5 to 10 minutes a day. Gradually, you will be able to work up to around 30 minutes a day.

As for strength and flexibility training, diabetes.org suggests that you lift weights for strength training and do some gentle stretches for flexibility training. Simple stretches can include bending over and trying to touch your toes and gently lifting your arms over your head, reaching as high as you can for the sky.

Other Techniques

As with any exercise routine, check with your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough for it. It is also important that you eat a balanced diet. To help you lose weight, start a weight loss and exercise journal. In it, detail everything you eat and each exercise that you will do for the week. Perhaps on Monday you will take a brisk walk for ten minutes. On Tuesday, you will go dancing. On Wednesday, you will focus on strength training. Whatever you choose, keep a log of your weight and make notes in it. Set reasonable goals as you exercise. For the first week, simply try to do about ten minutes each day. For the second week, try to exercise for fifteen minutes. Stick with your routine and you will shed the pounds.
