Types Of New Balance Running Shoes

The appropriately named New Balance company started off as a foot and arch support manufacturer in Boston in the early 1900s. During the American running boom of the 1970s, New Balance blossomed into a running shoe corporation and to this day continues in its Boston home base to be a high-level, top-tier running shoe and athletic gear manufacturer.

American Made

Unlike many of its competitors and to the satisfaction of many of its customers, New Balance running shoes are designed and manufactured in the United States. The first and for a long time, the only running shoe maker to produce shoes both for women and in widths, New Balance specialized in shoes with softer, meatier soles that appealed to long distance runners and particularly elite long distance runners like Greg Meyer, the last American winner of the Boston Marathon.

Neutral Cushioning

Truly in New Balance's wheelhouse is the neutral-cushioned training shoe. This is the kind of shoe they began with and the kind of shoe they still thrive with, producing models like the 758, 883 and 1063.

Motion Control/Stability

For runners with feet that require more stability, particularly with pronation, New Balance has a wide variety of shoes designed specifically for you like the 587, 1011 and 1123 for motion control and the 498, 769, 850 and 993 for stability.

Trail

New Balance was one of the first companies to design running shoes specifically for trail running, and they have reached high with their 070, 875 and 910 models. These shoes feature all the same cushioning and control technology of their road-designed counterparts plus they have a sole and upper designed specifically for off-road performance.

Racing

Like any other running shoe company, New Balance also supports all their competitive customers and staff athletes with racing shoes and spikes for the fastest races in the world. The 769 and 205 are super lightweight models for road racing at distances from 5K to the marathon. New Balance also manufactures a variety of spikes and specialty shoes for everything from sprints to long or high jump to the discus.

Prices

New Balance running shoes are priced competitively, even considering they are manufactured domestically. Generally speaking, the price goes up as the model number goes up, but you can find New Balance trainers on sale from $50 all the way up to $130 or more.
