The Different Colors Of Red To Dye Hair

Red hair color comes in many shades and hues.

Thoughts of red hair conjure up images of the traditional orange-haired Irish lassie. But red hair dye comes in a wide range of hues, from the lightest strawberry blond to deep, dramatic shades of dark burgundy. Does this Spark an idea?

Light Reds

Strawberry blond hair color warms natural blond shades.

Light shades of red, such as strawberry blond and light coppery brown, look best on people with warm skin tones. If a solid color change isn't desirable, natural blond or light brown hair takes on a warm glow with the application of copper highlights.

Medium Reds

Auburn hair is in the medium red color range.

Medium shades of red are those in the orange color family. These range from persimmon, to tomato red, to the pumpkin-like shades of medium auburn. Multi-dimensional color is achieved by the addition of blond highlights or dark brown-to-auburn lowlights. Medium reds look good on warm or cool skin tones.

Dark Reds

Burgundy highlights add dimension to brunette hair.

Dark reds feature a blue base color and work best on natural brunettes with cool skin tones. Plum, black cherry, burgundy and crimson describe these dramatic red hair colors, which are often applied as highlights to dark brown or black hair.
