Training For Football Players

Football players must be in peak physical condition, as it takes strength and endurance to play what is widely considered America's most physical sport. Training can vary by position, although there are few practice methods that can be followed by every player at every level.


Cardiovascular


Football players from the middle-school level on up play on a field that is 100 yards long. So it is imperative that they possess the necessary stamina to run long distances--as well as be able to run in quick, short bursts between plays. Football players can train for this aspect of the game by distance and sprint running, both outdoors and on a treadmill.


Strength


Lifting weights has always been a vital aspect of training for football, as everyone from cornerbacks to quarterbacks to linemen use an array of muscles to perform. It only makes sense for athletes to want to make these muscles as powerful as possible via weight training and diet.


Skills


Different football players need to master different types of skills. For instance, a running back contributes to his team in a manner completely different than the place kicker. Therefore, football players must spend plenty of time training on footwork and overall technique.
