Foot Swelling

Compression socks provide constant pressure to the lower leg muscles and the squeezing pressure forces blood out of the feet and calves and back up toward the heart. This is greatly beneficial for a number of circulatory disorders.

Blood Clots

Compression stockings are also used to help prevent blood clotting in the feet and legs. If blood is sitting in the lower extremities for too long without proper circulation, the blood can start to coagulate and form clots that can then then become lodged in other areas of the body, including the brain which results in a stroke. Compression socks are frequently fitted for hospital patients because blood clotting is a side effect of many different disorders.

The compression socks help prevent the veins from expanding to where they become visible varicose veins. Varicose veins are most common in the legs and feet, which is why compression socks are so widely used for their treatment and prevention.
