What Foods Prevent Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition that affects the pancreas. Insulin is either not produced or it is produced at a slow pace, which causes blood sugar levels to be out of control. Diabetes can be caused from eating foods that are high in calories, specifically calories from refined sugars. With that being said, there are foods that can help to prevent diabetes.

Lean Meats

Lean meats and fish are good sources of protein and they also do not impact blood sugar levels. Some examples are chicken breasts, white meat turkey, lean beef and salmon.

Seeds and Nuts

Seeds and nuts have protein, essential fatty acids and they are also filling. Some examples are walnuts, almonds, pecans, sunflower seeds and cashews.

Whole Grains

Whole grains have a lot of fiber in them, which helps regulate blood sugar levels. Some examples are oat bran, wheat bran and whole wheat pasta.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables make good snacks and they have high nutrient densities. This means they have a lot of vitamins and they are low in calories.

Balance

Eating balanced meals is also important. Meals should have a combination of carbs, protein and fats in them. This will cause them to digest slower and not cause a sharp increase in blood sugar levels.
