What Is Stamina In Sport

Stamina is important in many sports.

Along with strength and speed, stamina is an important part of sports. Without it, you will not be able to perform at your peak level. It is a relatively simple aspect to improve upon.

Identification

Stamina, commonly called endurance, is the ability of the body to endure periods of intense aerobic and cardiovascular activity. In sports, this often translates to the ability to play for a long period of time without your level deteriorating.

Benefits

There are other benefits besides improved play. First, the body's relation to oxygen is improved, both in how much oxygen is taken in and how it is taken in. Secondly, the muscles around the heart are strengthened, allowing for a better flow of blood.

Improving Stamina

Interval training is a good way to improve the body's stamina. This involves alternating short periods of high intensity effort with longer periods of more moderate effort. An example of this would be jogging for two minutes and then accelerating to a sprint for 30 seconds.
