Florida issues more than 30 different types of permits and licenses related to alcohol sales.
There are more than 30 licenses and permits relating to the sale of alcohol in the state of Florida. The state grants an unlimited number of liquor licenses for the sale of beer and wine; however, there is a limit on the number of licenses issued relating to the sale of liquor. This quota is determined for each county based on that county's population.
The 11PA License
In the state of Florida, there are three types of entities that may apply for an 11PA liquor license. These entities are symphony orchestras, live performance theaters and performing arts centers. Symphony orchestras and theaters offering live performances may obtain an 11PA license that allows them to serve alcohol. In order to qualify for an 11PA license, these entities must be state registered non-profit organizations. Live performance theaters must seat at least 100 people in order to obtain a liquor license. Performance arts centers may also obtain an 11PA license for banquets and receptions. They also qualify for the license when hosting "artistic, educational, cultural, promotional, civic, or charitable event(s)." An alcohol sold under an 11PA liquor license must be consumed on the premises.
Common Carrier Licenses
Florida allows certain common carriers to hold a liquor license. Railroads can apply for a license to serve alcohol on certain train cars, such as dining and club cars. Any alcohol served in these cars must also be consumed in them and can not be carried to other parts of the train. Cruise ships with at least a 75 person capacity are also eligible for Florida’s common carrier liquor license and may sell alcohol for consumption on the ship. Steamships, buses and airplanes may also apply for this license, as can airport waiting lounge areas. In airport lounges, alcohol can only be served to individuals holding an airline ticket for a flight that is scheduled to leave in 24 hours or less.
Golf Clubs
Florida golf clubs may need up to three specific liquor licenses. A golf club that owns at least 35 acres and consists of a club house, locker room and at least nine holes may obtain an 11CG liquor license, allowing the club to serve alcohol to members at its clubhouse. If the golf course wishes to sell alcoholic beverages at portable stands throughout the club property, an 11CX license is required. Once a year, golf clubs are permitted a temporary permit allowing the sale of alcohol to people who are not members of the club. This permit is known as a Non-Member Sales Permit (NMSP), and is good for up to eight consecutive days.
