Cushioned running shoes are ideal for runners with high arches.
Avid runners who have high arches and run without rolling their feet inward are the ideal candidates for cushioned running shoes. Cushioned running shoes typically have extra padding in the midsole and provide minimum medial support. As runners shop for their new cushioned running shoes, they should try on each of these highly rated shoes to determine which pair not only fits their feet properly, but is appropriate for their running style.
Adidas Response Cushion 17
The Adidas Response Cushion comes in both men's and women's styles and sizes. According to a Runner's World's review, several shoe testers noted the cushioning of the Men's Adidas Response Cushion 17 was superb and provided a snug fit on the feet. This shoe was updated from its previous model with more room at the midfoot for wider feet and two midsole heel plates, which help isolate and prevent the foot from moving side to side. The women's version is also designed with a sturdy midsole, a cushioned insole and uses the two heel plate system. These shoes are recommended for runners with high arches.
Nike Air Pegasus+ 27
The Nike Air Pegasus+ 27 was rated Best Buy by Runner's World. During testing, shoe testers found the Nike Air Pegasus+ 27 had a great bounce and fit snugly around the arches and ankles. The shoes have a soft, cushioned midsole, breathable mesh for comfort, a crash pad for shock absorption and blown rubber lugs for added cushioning. Nike has designed this shoe specifically for female runners and it is ideal for those with normal to high arches training for a marathon.
The Nike Air Pegasus+ 27 also comes in a men's version and provides the same added cushioning as the women's shoe, but has other features aimed at the running style of men. There is a waterproof Gore-Tex XCR® membrane that keeps feet warm and protected, and flex grooves for flexibility and a smoother stride.
New Balance 759
The New Balance 759 shoe is designed for both men and women. The 759 has a lightweight midsole and dual density foam for soft density cushioning against the foot and firm density for support. There is also an ABZORB® Strobel Board that runs the entire length of the shoe to provide maximum shock absorption and comfort, and N-ergy® for advanced shock absorption and cushioning in the heel. With the 759, New Balance has also updated its shoes by replacing its previous laces and N-lock system with a less complicated design. This shoe is lightweight at 8.9 ounces and provides great cushioning for runners with normal arches.
