The Importance Of Dressing Out For Physical Activities

Fashion is not the primary concern when choosing exercise clothing.

How you dress during physical activity is important whether you are running a marathon, working out or playing ball in the park. Exercise clothing is a large industry, and there is a piece of clothing right for every recreation. Choose wisely and you will feel cooler, more confident and comfortable.

Cold Weather

Take the weather into consideration if your physical activity takes place outside. If the weather is cold, wear layers that you can remove as you warm up. Add layers of wool or fleece over a polypropylene layer. Polypropylene absorbs sweat so clothing does not get wet and make you colder. In freezing or windy conditions, wear a face mask so your skin does not get chapped and glasses to shield your eyes. Wear a hat or ear muffs to keep your ears warm.

Warm Weather

In warm weather wear lose clothing in light fabrics. Allow your skin to breathe so the air can evaporate your sweat. Wear light colors that will reflect the sun's rays. Dark colors attract the sun's rays and heat your body up. Protect your eyes with sunglasses, and wear a visor to keep the sun out of your face.

Safety

Safety is a concern when working out with exercise equipment. Do not wear clothing that is too baggy or has strings hanging. Excess fabric can get caught in equipment and cause accidents. However, don't wear tight clothing that will interfere with your circulation or keep your skin from breathing.

Comfort

Clothing should not distract you from your physical activity, so they should fit comfortably. Choose fabrics that are made of breathable materials to stop chafing and overheating. Try moving around in your workout clothing before you buy it to make sure it allows for a range of movement. Confidence is also something to take into consideration. You do not want to feel self conscious when working out so pick clothing that you look good in.

Shoes

Protect your feet during physical activity by choosing the right shoe for your foot. Most shoe stores have staff that are knowledgable about the shape of the foot. Have your your feet examined so the staff can suggest shoes that will support your arch, not chafe your heel or injure you ankle. There are specialty shoes for different activities, such as running, hiking and specific sports.
