The Purpose Of A Compression Shirt

A compression shirt is a shirt made of a tight, stretchy material. These shirts are commonly worn by athletes during practices and games for a variety of different benefits. Additionally, compression shirts can help squeeze and sculpt a man's body, making him look more solid or muscular than he might look without the shirt on. Does this Spark an idea?

Description of Compression Shirts

Compression shirts are form-fitting but stretchy shirts that come in both short- and long-sleeved varieties. They are most commonly made from spandex, or another stretchy material. These shirts come in a variety of colors and brands.

Sweat-Wicking

One of the main reasons to wear a compression shirt lies in its sweat-wicking properties. When a person perspires, their sweat normally soaks into their shirt, which retains the moisture. A compression shirt helps by pulling moisture away from the skin and releasing it through the material, allowing the moisture to readily evaporate. This helps to control the amount of moisture that a person has to feel during an athletic competition.

Chafing

In addition to preventing an athlete from dripping in their own sweat, a compression shirt will also prevent chafing. When worn as a base garment between an athlete's skin and their uniform, it will provide an extra layer of fabric that protects the athlete's skin from the uniform's fabric or pieces. The uniform material will then move against the compression shirt, not the athlete's damp skin, preventing chafing.

Heat

A compression shirt also helps to lock in body heat. This heat is believed to help prevent damage to an athlete's muscles and joints. There are some models of compression shirts that are meant to be worn explicitly in cold weather; they're designed to lock in as much body heat as possible.

Appearance

Many individuals will wear a compression shirt to give their body a more sculpted, muscular look. The material clings tightly to the body and, when combined with a breast binding, can cause the chest to look hard and muscular rather than soft. Many people wear compression shirts as an undergarment for this very effect.
