What Color Clothes Should A Brunette Wear

You just purchased the current issue of your favorite magazine. Halle Berry dons the cover. Her beautiful brunette hair cascades down onto a lovely taupe sweater. Completely taken by the look, you purchase the sweater. Although the color is not one you would generally wear, you figure "Why not? After all, we're both brunettes". Sadly, the same color that worked beautifully on Halle has a horrid effect on you. This article explains why what color a brunette wears has less to do with hair color and everything to do with skin undertones. Does this Spark an idea?

Warm Brunettes vs Cool Brunettes

Brunettes come in myriad skin tones and complexions, ranging from pale to dark and everything in-between. Brunettes must also consider skin undertones, which fall into one of three categories. Warm skin undertones are yellow/orange or olive. Skin with blue or pinkish undertones are considered cool. Neutral skin tone brunettes, like Jennifer Lopez, are fair or light pink, olive or yellow. If you find it difficult to discern your skin undertone's temperature, focus on your eye color. Cool eyes are typically blue or gray; warm eyes are typically brown, green or hazel. Understanding your inherent coloring is key when deciding what colors are best for you.

Best Clothing Colors for Warm Brunettes

The gold undertones of Halle Berry's skin, as well as her hypnotic brown eyes, make her the quintessential warm brunette. Mochas, bronzes, sage greens, and delicious mango oranges are ideal colors for the warm brunette. Also consider softer warm tones of peach or apricot, summer yellow and apple green. Enhance your earth tone skin with olive, moss or jade greens. Fresh lime, grass or celery are also options. Select reds hues that are dark tomato, clear brick or burnt orange. Choose crisp ivory or oyster whites over bright whites.

Best Clothing Colors for Cool Brunettes

Dark brunettes with pale skin have a dramatic contrast to consider. Add a set of blue or gray eyes and you have yourself one incredibly striking cool brunette. Rich colors, such as black, deep blue, crimson, and dark pink are excellent choices. Other must-have colors include icy pastels like silver, sky blue, light sunny yellow, and pink. Unlike your warm brunette counterpart, bright white and blue reds look extraordinary next to your skin.

Pale cool skin with light to medium brunette hair favors soft shades and muted colors with cool undertones, as well as light neutrals. Look years younger in dusty or rose pink, pale yellow, lavender or pale mauve, powder blue and soft white.
