The Best Women'S Marathon Shoes

The right shoes can be the difference between success and failure.

Having the correct training gear is crucial to any sport, and athletic shoes are the foundational item necessary for any long-distance or marathon runner. There are a lot of varieties and several characteristics to consider when purchasing running shoes. Chief among these criterion are breathability, whether or not a shoe compensates for a high arch or more of a flat foot, weight, and cushioning.

Women's Nike Luna Racer +2

The cushioning of these particular shoes are quite good and remarkably breathable. While not being too heavy of shoe - which is important in something like a 5K or marathon - there is a sense of stability and strength that makes them useful in the weight room and in other athletic activities beyond distance running.

Adidas Running Marathon 10

Available in a variety of colors, these shoes are designed for neutral or underpronators (high-arched feet). They are quite light in terms of weight as well and consist of a sufficient amount of cushioning for distance running. There is a non-slip surface and an additional insert for extra cushioning and comfort. Reviewed as being very durable, these shoes were even suggested for running off road.

Asics Gel Nimbus

Yet another shoe for the underpronator, the Asics Gel Nimbus has both shock protection and a comfortable amount of cushioning ideal for distance running. As this is a women's shoe, there have been design modifications, one of which being that the shoe has been raised 3 millimeters higher which can help alleviate the stress placed on the foot during each footfall for high-arched feet.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS

This shoe is designed specifically for women that have flat feet, or rather those who are lacking a defined arch structure. This design uses something called the PDRB - Progressive Diagonal Roll Bar - that acts as motion control for the runner. This is done so that the entire foot does not impact the ground, which is especially painful for women with flat feet. It has been reviewed as being very comfortable and form-fitting.

Nike Air Zoom Vomero

Made for neutral runners, this shoe provides an ideal blend of cushioning and support as it having a neutral foot structure is no easier than any other arch structure. Because neutral runners do not have arch problems, this shoe offers more pedestrian features such as they are snug-fitting, which is important for distance running. The shoes also feature cushioning units and a gender-specific crash pad.
