Trek 830 Mountain Shx Specifications

The Trek Bicycle Corporation first started as a bike frame manufacturer in 1976, but two years later, the Wisconsin-based company began offering consumers full setups. Now in its 35th year, the company offers a wide variety of both mountain bikes and road cycles, from affordable to competitive models. The 830 SHX is a somewhat affordable mountain bike, with available steel frame sizes that could fit both kids and adults.

Sizes

While Trek offered the 830 SHX in several frame sizes, it featured 26-inch by 2.10-inch tires, the standard diameter for mountain bike tires. The frame sizes, on the other hand, would determine which type of bike would suit a person's physical needs the best. Trek offered the 830 SHX frames in 14.5-, 16.5-, 18-, 19.5-, 21-, and 22.5-inch sizes. All of the models weighed 30.8 pounds.

Frame and Fork

Whether consumers intended on using their Trek 830 SHX for light or heavy trail riding, the frame material and featured suspension were built to handle rugged terrain. While this model bike was a hardtail design and lacked a full suspension, it did feature an SR DuoTrack 7005 front shock, a dual aluminum piece. The front shock design is used on light trail and uphill riding, where a rear suspension would slow the rider down significantly. The frame itself was steel-forged, a heavier precursor to more modern, aluminum designs. Attached to the fork is a steel handlebar and handlebar stem.

Components

The Trek 830 SHX shifting components, brake system, front and rear derailleurs, and crankset were all manufactured by a secondary company, Shimano. Shimano has been a leading bicycle component company since 1921. The 830 SHX features a Shimano AceraX front derailleur and crankset, while the rear derailleur is a Shimano Alivio GS. The pedals of the 830 SHX were Wellgo LU-945 pedals that featured front clips, allowing riders to securely fasten themselves into the pedal at the back and reduce slippage during extreme conditions. Like most of the other components, the brakes of this particular bicycle came standard with Shimano Altus series brakes, coupled with Chang Star levers.

Wheels

The hubs, or axle parts, featured on the Trek 830 SHX are black Shimano AceraX. The 26-inch wheels are Weinmann 4019 wheels, a 36-hole design. The wheels come wrapped in Trek Big Kahuna tires, measuring 26 inches by 2.10 inches. The spokes are made out of stainless steel, a common style of spokes used with bicycles.
