Type Of Tape Used For Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a foot injury that can be treated with taping or strapping. There are many types of tape that you can use for this, some of which are zinc oxide tape, elastic adhesive and cohesive tape.

Identification

Plantar fasciitis is painful foot injury that is characterized by the irritation and swelling of the plantar fascia---the band of tissue at the bottom of your foot. This condition is common among runners.

Treatment

Aside from taping, other conservative treatments for plantar fasciitis include applying ice, resting, elevating, stretching, using orthotic inserts and taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication.

Types of Tape

There are many types of sports strapping tape that you can use. Zinc oxide tape, elastic adhesive and cohesive are some of the most common types of tape used for plantar fasciitis.

Zinc oxide tape has glue that contains zinc oxide. It comes in many widths and it tears easily. This bandage helps to protect your skin against blisters.

Elastic adhesive bandage is made with elastic material type tape that sticks to the skin. It does not tear easy, so you will need scissors for cutting strips.

Cohesive bandage is elastic and sticks to itself but not to your skin. Use of tape adhesive spray is necessary. Cohesive bandages can also be torn easily with fingers and come in a variety of colors.

Function

Strapping is a valuable technique in treating plantar fasciitis. It can help prevent further injury and protect the fascia by limiting its movement. Strapping prevents excess or abnormal movement while also providing support to the surrounding leg muscles.

Considerations

Do not leave the tape on your foot all day and all night because this will prevent your skin from breathing. Also, avoid strapping your foot too tight because this might leave it immobilized and restrict proper circulation.
