When people first think of going to the beach, they often think of the beach in summer, but there is a lot of fun to be had at the beach during the winter. In addition to planning activities, you need to consider what to wear. Beaches in the winter can be very cold and wearing the right clothing or combination of clothing is essential so everyone can be comfortable and have a great time. Comfort
The most important consideration when determining what to wear for a day at the beach during the winter is what clothing will be the most comfortable. Ideally, pants, a warm shirt, socks and closed shoes will be the basis. Depending on the beach (the beaches in Florida are much warmer than the beaches in Oregon) and time of year, denim will suffice. However, if it's going to be particularly cold, there are fabrics, particularly for pants, jackets or coats, made out of specialty water-repellent fabrics that can help keep everyone warm. Fashion
When dressing for the beach, remember that, although looking good is important, some clothing is more appropriate for certain activities than others. Is it better to wear the old sweatshirt that can get dirty rather than the expensive fisherman's sweater? A person can wear clothing he looks good in that helps him feel confident while still dressing for the occasion. If a person feels too dressed down, accessories such as earrings or a watch can boost the appeal of an outfit.
Layering
When going to the beach, layering is always a good idea. Bring a sweatshirt or sweater and a jacket or coat (depending on the weather) along, just in case. If the weather will be particularly cold, consider wearing long underwear or other undergarments that help hold heat. Hats are also a good way to stay warm at the beach. Depending on the activity, such as whale watching with binoculars, bringing along an extra blanket or two is always a good idea. Finally, even though it's winter, it's always best to wear sunscreen.
