Whirlpool Tub Won'T Turn

Tub problems with your washing machine or dryer can prevent either appliance from working.

Whirlpool Corporation is a white goods manufacturer based in Benton Charter Township, Michigan. The company makes a range of washing machines and clothes dryers that from time to time can experience technical problems. The tub, also known as the drum, spins and agitates the clothes in both washing machines and dryers. It may not turn if there are problems with the electrical supply or programming prior to the wash or dry cycle. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Washing Machine Tub Troubleshooting

1. Open the washing machine's door and redistribute the load within the tub. Heavy clothes can bunch together and set the tub off balance. Break apart any bunches and, if necessary, remove some of the heaviest items. Wash blankets, duvets and upholstery separately.

2. Select a spin cycle using the control panel, instead of soak. Some delicate wash cycles may not involve rotating the drum very often. Allow any currently active cycles to end before pressing any buttons -- the washer may be in the soak phase of a longer cycle.

3. Reset blown fuses or reset tripped breakers in your home circuits. Many Whirlpool washing machine's need two active fuses or circuit breakers to operate properly. If one of the pair of fuses or breakers has tripped, the washing machine may power up and fill but not spin.

Dryer Tub Troubleshooting

4. Press and hold the "Start" button on your Whirlpool dryer, if one is fitted. Some heavy loads will not begin until you hold the "Start" button for at least 5 seconds. Ensure the dryer door is completely closed. Whirlpool dryers will not start turning until the dryer door is closed for safety reasons.

5. Reduce the amount of clothes inside the dryer tub. As with the washing machine, heavy loads or large bunches of clothes can put the tub off balance and prevent it from turning. Add one large item per load with a mixture of smaller items. One washing machine load should equal one dryer load.

6. Reset blown fuses or reset tripped breakers in your home circuits. Many Whirlpool dryers need two active time-delay fuses or circuit breakers to operate properly. If one of the pair of fuses or breakers has been tripped the washing machine may power up but not spin.

7. Check the dryer is connected to a suitable power supply. Some Whirlpool dryers need a four-prong, 240-volt outlet to rotate the tub. Contact an electrician if you believe your dryer is connected to the wrong power supply.
